What is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)?

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized document per ISO 14025 that provides transparent and verified information about the environmental impact of a product, based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). For construction products, the European standard EN 15804 applies. EPD is mandatory for many public procurements and sustainable building certifications.

What is EPD verification and why is it necessary?

EPD verification is an independent review process by an accredited verifier (third party) that confirms the Environmental Product Declaration meets the requirements of ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards, and that the Life Cycle Assessment data is correct and transparent. Verification is mandatory for publishing EPD in international programs such as the International EPD System, EPD Hub, IBU and others.

What are the main ISO standards for LCA and EPD?
